Neuromorphic Chip Breakthrough: Going Beyond the Limits of Moore's Law in the AI Supercomputer Era

MUNICH, KOMPAS.com - Silicon scientists have successfully published the latest **Neuromorphic** chip breakthrough in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Electronics. This chip is specifically designed to replicate the physical working mechanism of the human brain's biological neural networks directly on semiconductor silicon circuits.

As traditional silicon chips begin to be hindered by the physical limitations of Moore's Law due to transistor sizes approaching atomic limits, neuromorphic computing offers an extraordinary leap in performance with 100 times higher power efficiency compared to today's commercial AI accelerator GPUs.

The head of the research team from the Technical University of Munich stated that this neuromorphic system no longer separates the data processing unit (CPU) from the data storage unit (RAM), but instead processes data directly inside the memory (in-memory computing).

Why is Neuromorphic So Efficient?

Unlike conventional von Neumann computer architectures which suffer from data transfer bottlenecks between the processor and memory, neuromorphic circuits integrate both using micro-memristor components.

This eliminates the massive energy consumption barrier in the inference calculation process of large-scale artificial intelligence models, paving the way for the creation of eco-friendly supercomputers in the future.
